Zambia Wins Africa Cup of Nations

The World

Zambians gave their national soccer team a heroes welcome Monday after they won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time.

Zambia beat the pre-tournament favorites Ivory Coast in a penalty shootout after regular time ended in a draw.

It was a poignant win as the final was played in Gabon where nearly 20 years ago a plane crash killed almost the entire Zambian soccer squad.

Anchor Marco Werman talks to the BBC’s Kennedy Gondwe, who is based in Lusaka, about the team’s homecoming.
