World’s Biggest Flag Unfurled in Romania

The World

There were thousands, probably millions, of American flags waving in the wind this past Memorial Day.

But we're looking for the biggest flag anywhere in the world.

In Romania this week, a brass band played the national anthem at a military airfield outside of Bucharest as 200 volunteers battled with the wind to unfurl a gigantic Romanian flag.

The country's prime minister was also on hand for the historic occasion. So was an official of the Guinness World Book of Records.

"It's a fantastic day today here in Romania, for Romanian people as a whole, who have achieved a new Guinness World Records title for the largest flag draped," the official said.

The largest flag – in this case – is bigger than three football fields.

It's design is inspired – in part – by the ideals of the French Revolution.

Can you name the colors on the Romanian flag?

Romanian Adrian Dragomir is responsible, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, for proudly making the world's biggest flag. Dragomir told The World it was the biggest achievement of his profession career.
