Josh Ritter Turns the Page

Studio 360
The World

Josh Ritter is one of our great young singer-songwriters, and he’s just published his first novel. Bright’s Passage is about a World War I veteran and his guardian angel.
Last year, Josh Ritter joined us for a live show at the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space in New York City. He performed songs from his recent album of songs, So Runs The World Away – a title he borrowed from Hamlet.
As he told Kurt Andersen, writing for the page and the stage were two very different challenges. “I finished the first draft and I thought that it was like the greatest book ever written,” he remembered. Turns out it wasn’t that easy. (Originally aired: February 25, 2011)
