College hoops and the world

The World

When Davidson upset second seed Georgetown last week, it was due to the backing of a strong roster which resembles a mini-UN; 6 out of 15 players come from other countries: France, Congo, Nigeria, England, Turkey. Recruiting talented players from abroad isn’t new, international players have been making a splash during March Madness for years. Hakeem Olujwan was a Final Four MVP for Houston in 1993 and later went on to become one of the NBA’s all time greats and was born in Nigeria. Davidson is a small liberal arts college outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. The coach there says he likes to recruit overseas because he doesn’t have to worry about being overshadowed by other big regional programs like Duke. This law professor says this is a good strategy for a college like Davidson to recruit.
