The World

It’s not often that you hear a UN Chief described as a “badass,” but that’s the way retired Lieutenant Colonel Shayne Gilbert is described by his team. His official title is Chief of the Joint Operations and Tasking Center for the United Nations in Haiti.

Four weeks ago, when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, NGOs and relief organizations were overwhelmed. Gilbert arrived on the scene on January 17th. Since then he’s been responsible for co-coordinating U.S. and international aid and resources to help Haitians in need. Gilbert explains how he and a team of international partners have been helping to organize the relief efforts in Haiti.
