‘A link with my ancestors’: Britons reconnect with Jewish roots for EU passports
Since the Brexit vote of 2016, hundreds of thousands of Britons have applied for citizenship of European countries, allowing them to continue to work and travel freely while holding onto their British passport. Thousands have been able to acquire passports of other European nations through sometimes distant Jewish roots.
Portugal’s golden visa program sparked an investment boom. But locals say they’re getting priced out.
Over the last decade, Portugal has issued more than 10,000 golden visas to foreign investors in exchange for $6 billion in investments. But some say the visa program prices out locals and that Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are “losing the magic.”

Howard French set out to illuminate a more expansive understanding in a new book called, “Born in Blackness: Africa, Africans, and the Making of the Modern World, 1471 to the Second World War.”
