This week, we are hearing a special report from The World’s Africa correspondent Halima Gikandi about the dark side of orphanages, or children’s homes, in Uganda.
Decades of research around the world has shown that orphanages can have negative effects on children’s development, which is why the US largely phased them out. Still, Americans continue to send money to these homes around the world.
One of them is Noah’s Ark Children’s Ministry Uganda, which was founded by a Dutch missionary couple 20 years ago. Gikandi’s yearlong investigation has found several allegations of abuse and misconduct going back a decade. This is part three in the series.
