American missionary accused of abuse at his organization, AidChild

This week, we are hearing a special report from The World’s Africa correspondent Halima Gikandi about the dark side of orphanages, or children’s homes, in Uganda.

Decades of research around the world has shown that orphanages can have negative effects on children’s development, which is why the US largely phased them out. Still, Americans continue to send money to orphanages around the world.

One of them is AidChild, an organization founded by American missionary Nathaniel Dunigan in 2000 to support kids with HIV. Gikandi’s yearlong investigation has found several allegations of abuse and neglect at AidChild going back a decade. This is part two in the series.
