Russia claims it controls Bakhmut, again

The small, strategically insignificant city of Bakhmut has been the focal point of the war in Ukraine since last summer. Over the weekend, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the private Russian Wagner militia group, announced, “There is not a single Ukrainian soldier in Bakhmut.” Ukraine’s military disputed that, saying its troops were still operating in parts of the city.
