Innovation of the Day: Postage stamps that taste like chocolate

Heads up, US Postal Service. Here's an idea from Europe that might just save you.

The Belgian post office, Bpost, has launched a set of special stamps that smell and taste like chocolate.

"We have added a chocolate taste to the glue of the stamps… which you can taste when you lick it," the Belgian postal service said.

Amazing, right? But wait, there's more.

The stamps are designed with five separate pictures of chocolate in various forms and — to complete the user experience — are also reportedly imbued with the smell of rich chocolate.

"It was not easy to get the scent and flavour of the dark chocolate right. In the end, people from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland all worked on it," Bpost said.

Chocolate innovation and international cooperation? Color us impressed.

The five limited edition stamps celebrate Belgium's renowned chocolatiers and feature chocolate in many of its glorious forms. The series is intended to be used for overseas mail and will cost 6.20 euros when it goes on sale March 25.

Not a Belgian? Not a problem! Our friends at Mashable say that even if you don't live in Belgium, you can sample these tasty treats by emailing philately@bpost.be.

At the very least, we think this deft and delicious business move deserves a congratulatory slow clap.

Cheers to our Belgian brethren. We salute you.
