NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Legacy

The Takeaway

New York City will soon be electing a new mayor, but the city’s current mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has left an indelible mark on the nation’s largest city.
Mayor Bloomberg certainly had his own agenda for New York. From bike lanes to school control, term limits, guns and soda bans, he refused to back down–even when state officials got in his way.
“We believe it is reasonable and responsible to draw a line, and that is what the Board of Health has done,” he argued in defense of his proposed ban on large sugary drinks. “As a matter of fact, it would be irresponsible not to try to do everything we can do save lives.”
After 12 years and three terms, he will move on in January 2014.
Brian Lehrer, host of WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show, discusses Mayor Bloomberg’s legacy.
WNYC is one of the official partners for the 2013 Campaign Finance Board debates for New York City Mayor. Brian Lehrer is previewing the debates live on his show and WNYC is taking your suggested questions for the candidates.
