The St. Louis Cardinals will play host to the Texas Rangers tonight as the 2011 World Series gets underway.

The two teams, which each won their league championship series in six games, will send their aces to the mound.

Chris Carpenter takes the hill for St. Louis and C.J. Wilson will take the mound for the Rangers. Both teams got little out of their starters in the league championship series; relying instead on timely hitting and strong bullpens to earn the four victories needed to advance.

The series will also feature a couple of surprise mashers. Nelson Cruz for Texas and David Freese for St. Louis have both made a major impact on their teams’ runs through the post-season.

The series begins at 8:05 p.m. eastern, 7:05 p.m. central and airs on the Fox network across the United States.
