Hong Kong could be on the verge of an international legal battle concerning N.S.A.-leaker Edward Snowden since he announced his intentions to stay there this week.
Though it maintains elements of sovereignty, Hong Kong is technically part of China and has an extradition agreement with the United States.
“People are sympathetic and they don’t think [Snowden] should be sent back to America but right now, I don’t think that the American government has made any overture to the Hong Kong government,” Emily Lau, chairwoman of Hong Kong’s Democratic Party and a member of the region’s Legislative Council says.
