Six Word Memoirs of Love and Loss

The Takeaway

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we’ve been collecting your memoirs of love and heartbreak – all in six words.
“After 20 years, still the one” says one listener from Rhode Island. Elizabeth in Denton, Texas had a darker story: “Wonderful love – then alcoholism took him.” Stephanie in West Palm Beach’s had a story that sounds like the start of a sitcom: “Funny, intelligent. Infatuation. Straight, gay.” And Constance in Salt Lake City, Utah’s story is: “Husband flees but still calls daily.”
Many of the stories coming in are too intriguing to leave at six words. Listener Rees Shad from Carmel, New York (“Distinct possibility this is a dream”) explains why he keeps waiting to wake up.
