Riot Police on Patrol after Weekend Clashes in Paris Suburb

The World

French riot police patrol the streets of the Paris suburb of Trappes after clashes between police and youths there this past weekend.

The unrest was sparked by an incident on Friday night when police stopped a woman wearing a full Muslim face veil in public, something that has been banned in France since 2011.

A tussle reportedly ensued and the woman’s husband was arrested for allegedly assaulting the police.

The World’s Carol Hills talks to Elsa Ray, an activist who is critical of police profiling in France.

Ray says the incident in Trappes has not been portrayed accurately by the media.
