Ramadan at Guantanamo Bay

The Takeaway

The holy month of Ramadan began at sundown on Monday night. And with it, millions of Muslims around the world began abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours, in the hopes of finding spiritual growth.
But for the Muslims in Guantanamo Bay who’ve been on hunger strike since the spring, Ramadan is a far more complicated matter. Their strike, in response to inhumane conditions, has been greeted by force-feedings.
And with Ramadan, those force-feedings will not end. They will, however, be moved.
Carol Rosenberg of The Miami Herald regularly reports on Guantanamo. She joins The Takeaway to discuss force-feedings during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
