President Obama Comments on Trayvon Martin

The Takeaway

At a White House press conference on Friday, President Obama was asked to comment on the Trayvon Martin case. He noted that because of the on-going Justice Department investigation, he had to restrict his comments, and then paused to collect his thoughts. He went on to express his sympathy to the 17-year-old shooting victim’s parents. “You know, if I had a son he’d look like Trayvon, and I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves,” he said. The unscripted comment has generated a powerful response. Ron Christie, Takeaway contributor and Republican political strategist says President Obama overstepped in his remarks. Xilla, an editor at Global Grinder, says the president’s remarks were appropriate – and deeply moving.
