The Legacy of the World’s First IVF Mother

The World

The British woman who gave birth to the world’s first test tube baby has died.

Lesley Brown made history in July 1978 when her daughter Louise Brown was born following IVF treatment.

Anchor Marco Werman speaks with Robin Marantz Henig, author of ‘Pandora’s Baby: How the world’s first test tube babies sparked the reproductive revolution’.

“She was mostly the object of fascination”, said Henig. “When she got close to delivery, news reporters from all over the world were camped out on her lawn.”
