Kid Rock, “Badass American”

The Takeaway

Kid Rock shot to fame in the late 90s with hits like “Bawitaba” from his album “Devil Without a Cause,”  winning fans with a sound somewhere between country and hip hop.
He recently put his pop fame to work on the campaign trail for Mitt Romney. Kid Rock’s single “Born Free” became one of Romney’s campaign songs, and the Michigan-born musician performed the song at a number of the candidate’s rallies.
Kelefa Sanneh recently followed Kid Rock to a football game, a  barbecue, and into the recording studio and wrote a lengthy profile of the musician in this week’s New Yorker.
