Cleveland is feeling a mix of emotions this week after the discovery and rescue of three young women who were kidnapped 9, 10, and 11 years ago and held captive in a residential home for years. The community is celebrating their safe return, but there are also questions and alarm.
Amanda Berry went missing in 2003 at age 17. Then, a year later, Gina DeJesus disappeared while walking home from middle school. The third victim is Michelle Knight, who went missing in 2002 at age 20. In addition, a fourth girl, a young child, was also rescued from the home. She is believed to have been fathered by one of the three men now under arrest.
Neighbors in the area have expressed shock and awe. Many say they knew the house well and even knew the owners of the home, yet never suspected that all along such a crime was being committed inside.
