There’s one group of immigrants that just got word that they now have a path to legal status here.

These are immigrants married to US citizens in same-sex unions.

Their fortunes changed Wednesday when the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.

The ruling means that lesbian and gay Americans can now sponsor their foreign-born spouses for permanent residency status.

We checked in with one married couple in the San Diego area.

They asked that we not use their names, because one of the women is living here without authorization.

She’s from El Salvador.

Both women were ecstatic when they heard the news of the Supreme Court decision.
