Actor Evan Handler on Beating Cancer with Comedy

The Takeaway

He has played some unforgettable characters on “Sex and the City” and “Californication,” but actor Evan Handler’s toughest challenge came earlier in his life. At age 24, Handler was diagnosed with leukemia, which he eventually beat.
It’s no surprise that comedy, what would come to be Handler’s acting forte, was an integral part of his healing process. “Humor continued to exist right alongside the tragedy,” Handler explains. “It didn’t stop funny things from occurring, and it didn’t stop my family and me from finding things funny.” Handler talks about laughter’s affect on cancer, and what comes after.
