The U.S. Military and Civilian Deaths in Afghanistan

The World

The New York Times has reported that dozens of civilians in Afghanistan were killed last month in the western province of Farah because of an error made by American forces in the region. A senior American official reportedly said that U.S. air crews did not follow instructions that were specifically put into place to limit civilian deaths. But the U.S. and Afghanistan don’t agree on the number of casualties involved. The New York Times Reporter Eric Schmitt is on the line from Washington, D.C. to talk to The Takeaway about this exclusive story.
