Tornado and Storms Across South Kill Scores

The Takeaway

Twisters ravaged Tornado Alley again yesterday, killing people in Georgia and Mississippi. In Alabama, the government has declared a state of emergency, after at least 25 people were pronounced dead and countless homes and businesses destroyed by multiple tornadoes in Birmingham, Pleasant Grove and Fultondale. But Tuscaloosa took the worst hit –  and that is where Jamon Smith, Education and Religion reporter for The Tuscaloosa News lives.   Speaking with The Takeaway, he recounts what happened when he returned to his own neighborhood to report on the destruction –  only to find his own home turned to rubble.
