Supreme Court this week: Enron, gun control, torture
This week, the Supreme Court will hear three very different cases; from corporate trials, to gun control laws, to international torture laws. New York Times Supreme Court correspondent Adam Liptak previews each case.
The first reopens the case of Jeffrey Skilling, former chief executive of Enron, who is trying to overturn his 24-year prison sentence. On Tuesday the court hears a case that may change the bounds of the Second Amendment and will address whether states and cities can determine their own local gun control laws. The third case will decide whether a group of five Somalis ? two of whom are now American citizens ? can sue their former prime minister who also lives in the U.S., for torture, murder and other abuses.
