Summer Book Club: What Makes a Good Summer Read?

The Takeaway

Whether your summer plans include a vacation to the beach or a “staycation” in your backyard, ’tis the season for relaxing and reading.  Today we’re kicking off a summer-long book. John, Celeste and a few Takeaway contributors have posted their  their top five summer books on our blog.  We’re starting our summer of reading with a conversation about summer books, both from a reader’s perspective and from a publisher’s perspective. With us here in the studio is Patrik Henry Bass, Takeaway contributor and senior editor at  Essence  magazine. Also with us is Jason Boog, publishing editor at Mediabistro and  editor of publishing blogs Galley Cat and  eBookNewser.

Are you with The World?

The story you just read is available to read for free because thousands of listeners and readers like you generously support our nonprofit newsroom. Every day, the reporters and producers at The World are hard at work bringing you human-centered news from across the globe. But we can’t do it without you: We need your support to ensure we can continue this work for another year.

When you make a gift of $10 or more a month, we’ll invite you to a virtual behind-the-scenes tour of our newsroom to thank you for being with The World.
