‘Miral’: Love and War in Palestine

Today a new film called “Miral” opens with a limited release. Directed by Julian Schnabel, it stars Freida Pinto of “Slumdog Millionaire” fame.  “Miral” follows the story of Palestinian girl raised in an orphanage in Jerusalem. As Miral reaches adulthood, she encounters Palestinian refugees and finds herself torn between the conservative ways of her upbringing and the influence of a charismatic rebel leader.  Rula Jebreal is the author of both the screenplay and novel on which “Miral” is based. Both were inspired by real historical events and experiences in the author’s life.
