Guantanamo detainees to be tried in military courts

The World

According to a New York Times article released today, the Obama administration is planning to prosecute Guantanamo detainees in military commission trials. This follows decisions by Congress to prevent these prisoners from being brought to the U.S. and tried in federal courts.

According to the article, President Obama’s legal team is ironing out regulations on how these trials should be held. The article also said that Defense Secretary Robert Gates is expected to lift an order that blocked prosecutors from proposing new charges against detainees.

To talk with us about these developments is Karen Greenberg, Executive Director of the Center on Law and Security at New York University School of Law and author of “The Least Worst Place: Guantanamo’s First 100 Days.”
