Cross the border of Pakistan and head into Afghanistan for today’s Geo Quiz.

We’re looking for a remote mountainous province of Afghanistan, one of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.

Pakistan lies to the east. The provincial capital is the city of Parun. Alexander the Great may have have passed this way back in the 4th century BC along with his horsemen, foot soldiers, chariots and fighting elephants. Nowadays this province is well off the beaten path.

“I think a lot of journalists don’t come here, it’s rather a forgotten province, it’s sort of in the northeast of the country, it’s an enormous province probably the poorest and least developed province, tremendous mountains.” (Reporter Danna Harmon)

Those would be the southern slopes of the Hindu Kush mountains. And that would be the last clue…

The answer is Nuristan Province (also spelled Nooristan).
