South Miami man Derek Medina was charged with first-degree murder on Thursday after posting on his Facebook page a picture of his wife's body and a confession that he killed her.

"Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys, miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news," Medina, 31, wrote on his now-deleted Facebook page. "My wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me."

The photo of his dead wife, Jennifer Alfonso, 26, reportedly showed her body slumped over, knees bent awkwardly, with blood visible on her cheek and arm. It was captioned "RIP Jennifer Alfonso."

After posting the photo and confession, Medina walked into the South Miami police station around noon that same day and spent the evening telling homicide detectives what happened before the shooting death of his wife.

Alfonso's 10-year-old daughter from a previous relationship was upstairs in the family's townhouse during the shooting, but was unharmed. Officers escorted her out when they went to the home with a search warrant to document the crime scene.

According to an arrest report, Medina said he got into an argument with Alfonso and went upstairs to get his gun out of a closet. He then pointed it at Alfonso, who said she was "leaving him." Medina followed his wife downstairs to the kitchen where she grabbed a knife. He managed to disarm her and put the knife in a drawer, shooting her several times after she began punching and kicking him.

Alfonso's former boss alleged that Medina was extremely jealous and abused Alfonso, who came to work "bruised up."
