Fire Ravages Kenya’s Busiest Airport

The World

A huge fire broke out today at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport – Kenya's biggest airport. The blaze destroyed the airport's entire arrivals terminal–stranding hundreds of travelers as flights were cancelled or diverted elsewhere. Kenyan authorities say there were no casualties. Some 220 flights a day land and take-off at Nairobi – and more than 100 flights were cancelled today. The fire coincided with the 15th anniversary of a twin attacks on the United States embassies in Kenya and neighbouring Tanzania. Richard Kagoe, the Senior Reporter at K24 Television has been at the airport for much of the day talking with officials and passengers.
