Afghanistan: Donkey bomb attack kills 8, including 3 US soldiers

A donkey-riding suicide bomber killed eight people in Afghanistan's Wardak province, including US soldiers, Afghan officials told The New York Times on Tuesday. 

The bomber, disguised as a farmer, rode up to soldiers while they were out on patrol before setting off his his explosives early Tuesday, according to CNN, citing local sources.

Four Afghan soldiers, three US soldiers and an interpreter were reported killed. 

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Times

The blast hit as US and Afghan troops were together patrolling a volatile area in Wardak Province, the Sayadabad district, which is near a major highway to Kabul, said the Times

Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for Wardak's provincial governor, told CNN that four Afghan soldiers were also wounded in the attack.
