Ecuador claims surveillance device found in its London Embassy

Ecuador has reported a hidden device was discovered by intelligence services inside its London embassy during Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino Aroca's visit to the United Kingdom last month.

Ricardo Patino said the device, located in the office of Ana Alban, the Ecuadorean ambassador to the UK, was found during a trip to meet with his Embassy's longtime WikiLeaks resident Julian Assange.

"We immediately conducted an investigation to find the source," Patino said, adding that he will announce on Wednesday "the source of the device, who was using it and which department installed it."

“We are sorry to say so, but this is another instance of a loss of ethics at the international level in relations between governments,” Patino added.

Assange has lived in Ecuador's London embassy for more than a year in an effort to avoid possible extradition to the United States for his part in the leaking of diplomatic cables on the Iraq Afghanistan wars a few years ago.
