Game of Thrones season 3 is here; what you’ve missed so far (VIDEO)

So, Game of Thrones season 3 on Sunday. Excited?
No? Confused?
OK, let’s take this from the beginning.
“Thrones” is actually “A Game of Thrones” written by George R.R. Martin. And, to be precise, it’s actually five books that began with the above title in 1996.
You’ll also hear the series called "A Song of Fire and Ice." The author plans on writing seven novels overall, meaning there’s two in the hopper.
It’s also a runaway hit on TV, with HBO debuting “Thrones” on April 17, 2011.
The series begins its third season on Sunday at 9 pm, taking viewers (those of you too lazy to read) roughly midway through "A Storm of Swords," the third book.
What’s it all about? Imagine a medieval realm filled with swordplay, kings, mystical creatures and sex. Yes, the series shows skin.
If "Lord of the Rings" was your childhood, “Thrones” is your puberty.

That first episode was called “Winter is Coming.”
“Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, is dead,” the synopsis at IMDB reads. “King Robert Baratheon plans to ask his oldest friend, Eddard Stark, to take Jon’s place. Across the sea, Viserys Targaryen plans to wed his sister to a nomadic warlord in exchange for an army.”

The TV series features some well-established actors like Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage and plenty of beautiful, up-and-comers such as Emilia Clark and Kit Harington.
It’s spawned such fervent, loyal fans that you can find websites that will teach you Dothraki, a language created—yes, created—from scratch for the series. You know, in case you’ve already mastered Klingon.
Just don’t assume it’s strictly for the Dungeons and Dragons set; there’s a more mature group of fans out there showing their loyalty in unique ways.

OK, so you have your refresher. Now, what to expect from Season 3 of "Game of Thrones" on HBO?
“The third season has a hammering propulsion to it in terms of what’s happening,” show runner Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s major massive events happening like I don’t think we’ve ever had before. … It’s our intention to make it the best season.”
