Sochi organizers stockpile snow, just in case

The organizers of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are said to be stockpiling snow just in case.

The officials are worried that there may not be enough snow when the games begin next February.

Sochi has seen unusually warm temperatures in the Black Sea resort.

"This was a very odd winter," said Sochi ski resort director Sergei Bachin.

"I want to assure all the competitors that there won't be any shortage of snow next February even if we encounter even warmer temperatures next year."

Organizers are said to be stockpiling 450,000 cubic meters of snow collected from the Caucasus mountains.

"We've prepared seven separate areas for snow storage high up in the mountains," Sergei Bachin, general director of Roza Khutor, a ski resort in Krasnaya Polyana, told Reuters.

"I want to assure all the competitors that there won't be any shortage of snow next February even if we encounter even warmer temperatures next year," he said.
