Andrew Chesnut is Chair in Catholic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and a leading authority on Christianity in Brazil and Latin America.
He says a charismatic form of Catholic renewal in Brazil has taken off and and is the future of global catholicism.
And Brazilian Cardinal Odilo Scherer, according to professor Chesnut, is a leading contender in the race to the papacy.
