Many in America's foreign policy community still have a positive view of David Petraeus and his legacy: "Obviously David Petraeus is a fantastic, accomplished American hero." Michael O'Hanlon is a senior fellow in foreign policy studies at the Brookings Institution. He knows David Petraeus very well. They attended graduate school together at Princeton, and more recently O'Hanlon had been working with Petraeus as a member of the CIA's external advisory board.
