NJ earthquake hits Ringwood with 2.0 rumble

When it rains, it pours. Some residents of northern New Jersey, already suffering from power outages, downed trees and other destruction in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, woke up at 1:19 am this morning to a loud, booming noise. The sound came from a small earthquake centered in Ringwood, the Associated Press reported. With a 2.0 magnitude, the earthquake luckily caused no reports of damage or injuries.
The depth was 3.1 miles, according to the US Geological Survey, and the agency logged a total of just 11 responses from people who said they felt the quake, CNN reported.

But it couldn't have come at a worse time. The earthquake shook the area shortly after the National Weather Service predicted that another storm will soon hit the areas already stricken by Sandy. According to the National Weather Service, a nor'easter is expected to strike the area by Wednesday, and could include gusts of wind of up to 55 mph. Buildings and trees weakened by Sandy may be vulnerable to more damage, and efforts to restore electricity could also get stalled as a result, the AP reported.
