Guan Tianlang, Chinese teenage golfer, off to the Masters at Augusta

He’s only 14 and barely weighs 125 pounds, but Chinese golfer Guan Tianlang is off to the Masters next year to play against heavy-hitters Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson at the Augusta National, the Associated Press reported.

Guan won the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Bangkok on Sunday, earning himself an invitation to the Masters and a place in the history books as the youngest ever golfer to tee off at the US championship, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"I'm so excited. I'm really happy to become the youngest player at the Masters and looking forward to going there. I don't know what's going to happen there, but I know I just want to do well," Guan was quoted by the Agence France-Presse as saying.

The eighth grader from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou swung his first club at the age of four, the AFP said. He spends about three months of the year training in the United States.

Earlier this year, when he was still 13, he teed off at the Volvo China Open in the northern port city of Tianjin, becoming the youngest player to compete in a European PGA Tour event, the WSJ reported.

Even though he missed the cut, Guan said the experience will "help me in the Masters," the AP reported.
