Jin Ok Choi said she rarely buys lottery tickets but did so on a whim when she saw it was so high, The New York Post reported.
"I [was] just shocked. I cant explain it," said Choi, 54, who plans to buy a new condo with her Mega Millions jackpot winnings.
Choi, a retiree, will walk away with a $40,426,259 check after taxes after opting for the lump sum payment of nearly $65 million.
She bought the ticket on July 1 at her local liquor store while she was picking up wine.
She said she rarely plays the Lotto and spends only $10 a year on lottery tickets, but the clerk at the store where she bought the winner believes she is a regular, The New York Daily News reported.
“She buys five dollars worth of tickets every week and some liquor usually,” Susan Chan told the New York Daily News.
“She's a very nice person. She's a good customer.”
Surprisingly, Choi has not been back to the store since she won, not even to buy champagne to celebrate.
