Tijuana drug tunnel found

Mexican soldiers discovered an unfinished drug smuggling tunnel that began in the bathroom of a factory in Tijuana– and was headed for San Diego.

The entrance of the tunnel was located under a sink and extended for about 200 yards but didn't cross the U.S. border, police said.

Officials said the tunnel was nearly 2 meters tall, 1 meter wide, and had a basic ventilation and lighting system.

Mexican Army officials said they found the tunnel after becoming suspicious of large quantities of trash found at the factory.

The Drug Enforcement Agency in the U.S. said in the past 10 years, 89 cross-border tunnels have been discovered in Arizona and 50 in California.
