BERLIN, Germany — Luka Rocco Magnotta, the Canadian man wanted for the murder of a Chinese student in Montreal, has been arrested in Berlin.

"A 29-year-old man wanted by Interpol was arrested early this afternoon in an internet cafe," a police spokesman told Reuters.

According to German television reports, Magnotta spent around an hour on a computer in the cafe in Berlin's south-east Neukoelln neighborhood before being picked up by police.

One witness told Der Spiegel that Magnotta was looking at news reports about himself when police arrived, called by cafe employees who had recognized the suspect from his picture.

"Officers arrested him on the site, he did not put up any resistance," Berlin police spokeswoman Kerstin Ziesmer told the Associated Press. "He says he is the wanted person."

Magnotta is now in custody and will be brought before a judge tomorrow, another spokesperson told the Globe and Mail. He is expected to be returned to Canada "as quickly as possible."

Magnotta was the subject of an international manhunt after Canadian police said that he had left Montreal for Paris on May 26, one day after he is believed to have killed, dismembered and sexually assaulted 33-year-old Chinese national Jun Lin.

Among hundreds of sightings reported in the French capital, an employee of intercontinental coach service Eurolines claimed to have seen Magnotta board a bus for Berlin on Friday night, Focus magazine reported

Real name Eric Clinton Newman, Magnotta styled himself as a male model and gay porn actor. He has been nicknamed "Canadian Psycho" because music from the movie American Psycho played in the background of the video he shot of himself apparently murdering and brutalizing Lin.

Parts of Lin's body were later mailed to the Conservative and Liberal parties of Canada.
