The Arab League gave the Syrian government 24 hours to admit international monitors or face serious economic sanctions on Thursday. After the deadline passed at 6:00AM Eastern time, the league decided meet on Saturday to discuss how to proceed. At least 51 people are said to have been killed in violence across the country on Thursday.
