Mumbai airport on terror alert

Ongoing recovery operations to move a Turkish Airlines Airbus A340 aircraft, which skidded off a taxiway September 2, is seen at the Mumbai Airport on September 4, 2011. The main runway of the international airport in Mumbai remained shut as incessant rains hampered the towing of a Turkish Airlines plane stuck in mud near the taxiway since September 2, officials said.

Authorities in the Indian state of Maharashtra warned of a possible terrorist threat to Mumbai airport, NDTV reports.

Central intelligence agencies have received information suggesting that a helicopter or small plane may be used to attempt to attack the airport, the news channel said.

The agencies requested that strict procedures be put in place to check anyone seeking to rent helicopters or small planes.
