Michele Bachmann signs anti-pornography, anti-Sharia pledge; Romney says “no”

Michele Bachmann, in a virtual tie with Mitt Romney for the GOP presidential nomination according to the latest Iowa poll, has taken a stand against pornography and Sharia — or Islamic — law.

Meanwhile, Romney said Wednesday that he would not sign the pledge, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to reject the document, USA Today reports.

Bachmann has reportedly become the first candidate to sign "The Marriage Vow: A Declaration of Dependence Upon Marriage and Family," a four-page pledge put out by prominent Iowa social conservative Bob Vander Plaats.

The Washington Post, boils it down to this:

By signing, she agreed to ban pornography, called homosexuality a choice, and implied that slavery — while not perfect — at least guaranteed that children grew up in two-parent households. Among other things.

Among other things, the "values pledge" claims that:

"Sharia polygamy, multi-partner childbearing, demographic jihad and the persecution of Jews, Christians, blacks, artists, feminists, gays, freethinkers and other non-conformists poses a threat to Western human rights in general, and to American liberty in particular."

It also includes a reference to protecting children from "all forms of pornography" that could arguably be read as an endorsement of a porn ban, something the majority of media outlets point out.

There is also a "gratuitous" reference to slavery in the preface to the pledge, as Salon.com puts it. And they quote:

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born in to slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President.

There's also a reference to "Sharia Islam":

Rejection of Sharia Islam and all other anti-woman, anti-human rights forms of totalitarian control.
