Let us now praise honest men, part 2

The World

Most of the time, I complain about government officials who refuse to do their job. But this time I'm cheering. That's right, folks: Hundreds of thousands of government workers downed pencils (and rubber stamps) today to protest the killing of Yashwant Sonawane in the state of Maharashtra on Tuesday.

Yashwant Sonawane was burned to death while investigating a gang that was stealing gasoline and mixing it with kerosene to increase their profits, according to the government. Nine people have been arrested in connection with the crime so far.

Now, though, other government workers are demanding adequate protection if they are to continue working for the state.
