Despite bleak reports, war strategy deemed right course

Despite finding few examples of success, a review of U.S. President Barack Obama's Afghanistan War strategy has been deemed by officials to be on track. American forces, the report says, will still begin withdrawing as scheduled in July.

The report, released today, does indicate that winning the war will depend on the cooperation of neighboring Pakistan, reflecting concerns that Taliban militants freely cross from Pakistan into Afghanistan to fight U.S. troops before fleeing back across the border — to relative safety.
