Hattie McDaniel’s missing Oscar

Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American to win an Academy Award for her role as Mammy, in the 1939 classic, “Gone with the Wind.” The question that’s been asked for decades is, “where is her Oscar?” Nobody knows. The award was bequeathed to Howard University’s drama department after her death of breast cancer in 1952.
