Tango therapy

The World
The World
At first glance, this looks a bit like a dance lesson in a hotel meeting room. But this is no dance lesson, those on the floor and professors and researchers and physical therapists. They're here to talk about tango and its healing powers, its ability to improve cognition and memory and even to relieve depression. One of the pioneers of tango therapy is this woman who talks about how tango improves cognition. Another aspect is memory and tests show that memory also noticeably improves while dancing tango. This physical therapist cites her research which pinned tango against other dance styles and found that tango group was always equal to or better at improving conditions. Researchers think one of the reasons tango may be so effective is because it's so complex. Long time tango dancers joke that it takes a lifetime and a half to properly learn tango. Research into tango therapy is just getting started.
