(1 billion people in India and only 17 Olympic medals in India’s competitive Olympics history. Why?) Out of these 17 medals, most have come in hockey and sadly our hockey teams haven’t qualified. A lack of proper planning and lack of money is to blame for that. (Is the bottom line is that the government and people of India don’t place much importance on the Olympics and competitive sports?) The reality is more people in India are turning to sports, but there is no set procedure of sports policies. All the wrong focus was on our old policy. (It is said India might want to host the Olympics in 2020, but why would they want to if they have such a low emphasis on the competitions?) I agree, we should first focus on our competitiveness in sports.
